Purpose of the Position: Under general supervision, responsible for the development, design, validation and project management of packaging projects, including new packaging designs, material conversions, packaging equipment procurement lifecycle and quality and regulatory compliance.
Essential Functions: (List all basic responsibilities related to the purpose of the position)
Identify, design, develop, evaluate and qualify innovative packaging processes.
Identify, lead and support cost reduction opportunities by qualifying alternate packaging materials, process improvements and packaging design optimization.
Design test plans to trouble shoot issues, identify root causes and ensure corrective actions are implemented to meet project milestones.
Support plant-driven packaging initiatives with technical expertise to complement current plant resources when required.
Support change control process and maintenance of business activities related to packaging.
Lead continuous improvement projects within the packaging department.
Develop and manage timelines for all packaging projects.
Consult with vendors, as required, regarding the technical aspects of design and development projects.
Review designs for feasibility and accuracy.
Identify, analyze and recommend new technologies or materials for specific applications.
Work closely with packaging suppliers to identify appropriate packaging components and materials.
Coordinate and perform packaging line trials.
Lead / participate in productivity teams that contribute to overall company cost savings objectives.
Prepare written policies, procedures, proposals and reports.

Financial authority and responsibility:
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience and Necessary Skills all must be met in order to qualify for position.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or a related area and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in packaging operations for automotive manufacturing or related industry.
Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.:
Working knowledge of packaging industry standards and regulations
Highly developed project management skills including formalized methodologies, written and verbal communication skills
Strong team and interpersonal skills, strong planning, organizational and leadership skills
Technical writing skills (i.e. CAD) for preparation of material specifications, mechanical drawing content and review, validation preparation and report writing
Preferred Skills: Six-Sigma
