Senior Partnership Specialist

This role is embedded in MBRDNA’s Open Innovation team which actively identifies and productizes new innovations into the Mercedes-Benz car portfolio by partnering with early stage companies on joint product developments. The successful candidate will join a vibrant environment at the heart of automotive innovation. Main tasks will be:
- Partner with business unit leaders on strategy development, including identifying product gaps, evaluating cooperation options, and collaborating on target selection criteria
- Work alongside development teams to productize innovations in partnership with early to late stage high-tech companies
- Develop engagement models for early to late stage high-tech companies for Mercedes-Benz
- Assess product and company fitness for long-term strategic partnership
- Ideate, Plan and Execute proof of concepts with internal and external engineering and design teams
- Develop a comprehensive product and marketing roadmap to deliver on business goals
- Clearly communicate product benefits to our users and internal stakeholders
- Develop network of industry contacts, venture capital firms, and advisory executives to bring knowledge of market trends and opportunities to bear on strategic discussions
- Supporting the cooperation & innovation management process for MBRDNA.
- Responsibilities include screening, selection and evaluation of possible external cooperation partners located in North America leading to proof of concept (POC) and cooperation agreements together with departments
- Pro-active scouting for start-ups and innovative technology in North America , and benchmarking technology against other solutions, in close collaboration & alignment with international R&D network, globally
- Identifying technology and innovation trends for R&D departments, and taking part in strategic decision-making for adopting open innovation solutions by R&D departments.
- Supporting RD/IM and MBRDNA management team in various activities, including hosting of delegations.
- Ensure implementation and compliance with applicable business processes, accounting entries, reporting and documentation requirements; continuous documentation along Innovation Management Cycle in CIMme.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Generate regular project reports and present status to MBRDNA and Daimler/RD management.
  • Manage relationships with partners critical to technical program success. 
  • Identify new projects we could drive together with our partners and initiate them with our business units within R&D.
  • Create a strategy and a roadmap what we want to achieve with our partners including milestones, deliverables and ensure our partners and business units deliver on time.
  • Develop viable and scalable business models with the cooperation partners.
  • Establish frequent communication and information exchange to leading organizations in order to identify leading innovations and/ or talent opportunities for Daimler.
  • Establish a strong communication for collaboration and knowledge transfer between MBRDNA and Daimler R&D centers in Germany and globally.
  • Establish own methods and evaluation criteria to assess and monitor cooperation and / or participations in companies.
  • Active support in negotiations of innovation and cooperation projects as well as execution and evaluation of strategic, commercial and technical tasks therein.
  • Formation and advancement of resulting cooperation and/or participation structures as well as their integration in / interaction with Daimler.       
  • Establish frequent communication and information exchange to leading organizations in order to identify leading innovations and/ or talent opportunities for Daimler.   
  • Establish own methods and evaluation criteria to assess and monitor cooperation and / or participations in companies.
  • Support on cooperation cross-functional tasks:
  • Development and establishment of cooperation / portfolio and tracking tools for RD/IM as well as template for cooperation in R&D in general

  • Completed bachelors/masters degree in business administration, engineering, economics or comparable qualification with track record in technology companies or venture capital companies
  • Experience delivering products to market and demonstrated ability to drive product planning, development and launch
  • Experience in project management
  • Excellent command of English language skills preferred
  • Certification of participation in qualifications relevant to this position
  • Other licenses or certifications required :
  • Willingness to travel
  • Strategic and entrepreneurial thinking and acting as well as customer orientation
  • Understanding of the most recent trends in the mobility sector including experience with digital consumer experiences 
  • Knowledge of the emerging technologies like augmented reality, computer vision, autonomous driving, mobile technologies
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with and understand technical subjects and emerging technologies and their relevance to the marketplace
  • Ability to lead across highly cross-functional teams
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
